Saturday, Oct 1 - Day 3

10. Cairo 678 (***)
Women coping with cultural mysogyny in "modern" Cairo. Bracing myself for the anger buttons I expected to have pushed, I was drawn in and pleasantly surprised by the confidant, even-handed approach. While there's still a very long way to go, not all the bad guys are all bad.

11. Guilt (***)
A sad, very sad, movie. A couple of good kids, behaving foolishly, unexpectedly and unintentionally, do something very bad. And no one, least of all the audience, can live with it. An actors' film and they're all wonderfully believable.

12. Cloudburst (**)
Commendable shot at a (mostly) original idea. Two dyke seniors carry just enough 50s baggage to fuel the plot. Could've worked with less reliance on improbabilities (the geography, for one) and playing "shock" verbiage for cheap laughs. Cast seems to be having fun, though.
